Winslow could have a new secondary school as soon as next September, after plans to set up a free school in the town were given the green light last week.
The team behind a bid to set up the Sir Thomas Fremantle School in Winslow heard on Friday that their application has been nodded through to the next stage by the Department for Education.
The steering group behind the free school bid consists mainly of parents, teachers and education professionals.
Their preferred location for the school would be the Winslow Centre, owned by Bucks County Council, which used to house the Winslow County Secondary School.
